Ginkgo Glory
Original pastel on sanded paper, painted en plein air at Blandy Experimental Farm's Ginkgo Grove (AKA Virginia State Arboretum). It was a glorious afternoon. The leaves raced each other downward with every wind gust, vying for a spot on my pastel box. I loved seeing that warm, buttery yellow against all of my pastel colors. The ground beneath was happily receiving its new cover. Children laughed and gathered armloads of leaves to toss up over their heads, and relish the feel of autumn floating down around them. These are some of the reasons why I love to paint outdoors, and why I am an artist. This is my interpretation of ginkgo glory.
